Description

Quatech's ESC-100 8-port RS-232 serial adapter leverages the " Plug and Play " capability defined in the PCI 2.1 bus specification. The board requires only one PCI slot within the personal computer and provides eight independent serial channels. All eight channels are addressed in a continuous 32 byte I/O block for simplified software access. And, all channels may also share one PCI interrupt. An interrupt status register is available for determining the interrupt source.

The ESC-100 comes standard with 8 16550 UARTs containing 16 byte FIFOs. 16750 UARTs with 64 byte FIFOs are available as an option. These upgraded FIFOs greatly reduce CPU overhead and are an ideal choice for heavy multitasking environments.

The ESC-100 is also available with an optional industrial package which includes transceivers with thermal shutdown circuitry and +/- 15kV ESD shock protection and surge suppression.

The ESC-100 connects to peripheral equipment via an octopus style cable which terminates in eight standard male D-25 serial port connectors. A DB option which includes a breakout box and a D-78 to D-78 connector cable is also available.

Software support is provided to configure the cards under Windows 95/98, Windows NT, and OS/2.
