Description
Quatech RS-422/485 CompactPCI boards are dedicated serial boards designed specifically for CompactPCI systems. Though electrically similar to standard PCI boards, CompactPCI boards are made to be used in specialized enclosures designed to provide both superior protection against environmental hazards and easy access for rewiring, replacing, or exchanging boards. The cannot be installed directly into a PC unless specialized adapters are used.
Quatech RS-422/485 CompactPCI boards provide 2500 Vrms optical isolation making them ideal for high-noise industrial environments. The independent ports on the boards are jumper configurable as either RS-422 or RS-485 in any combination. The serial ports are accessed via onboard RJ-45 modular connectors, onboard DB-9 female connectors (2 port boards), or a DB-37 female connector that can be used with an optional cable providing four DB-25 male ports (4 port boards). Serial ports are implemented with 16750 UARTs containing 64-byte FIFOs. They also use a clock-multiplying feature allowing them to achieve data rates as high as 921.6 kbps. The high clock speeds and deep FIFOs greatly reduce CPU overhead, making the boards ideal choices for heavy multitasking environments. |
